As a Hypnotherapist with over thirty years clinical experience, I couldn't agree more. The trick is to find practical understanding and techniques to deal with the individual's dis-ease or lack of ease. It is one thing to break it down and recognise it, but entirely a different thing to do something practical about it. Stress in its myriad forms is such a broad spectrum issue because it is unique to the sufferer. If they can learn to better understand their personal stressors and how they are triggered, as well as learn simple techniques for dealing with both the signs and symptoms unique to them, they can often quite quickly make a huge change in their lives.

Hypnotherapy, mindfulness, meditation and similar processes have been shown to be powerful tools for change in psychosomatic problems.

Let’s take the meta-approach.

We have a documentary in which different opinions are related, in good faith, supposedly to give an overview of a subject. How do we perceive this?

There are two basic forms of presentation: narrative and instructional.

The former is what the TV does. You’re watching the screen on which moving images are displayed along with a narration. The idea is that you are the passive watcher. You watch the movie as a witness, what we may call for entertainment purposes.

Instructional presentations are intended to provide you with tools to handle a presented problem.

Narrative materials come and go, in the long run, they are of little use for you. You are feeding your mind with more information and this creates an illusion that you become more intellectual, wiser or better prepared for life.

Instructional materials give you practical measures which you can use to change your environment (including your inner world).

Your mind becomes more obese with narrative materials or takes advantage of instructional materials to create real mental fitness performance.

The best form is to mixture of some background information with the predominant practical tips which the reader/viewer can employ in his/her life.

In other words, by producing purely journalistic (narrative) materials, the mind is conditioned to become passive. On the other hand, adding instructional materials may become an inspiration for the reader/viewer to actually do something more than mere absorption of knowledge. Kind of, and analogy to the nocebo/placebo/active substance impact.

I learned much about the mind-body connection to disease while studying at the University of California Irivne. Stressful life events like divorce triggers your mind to go into a protective mod and hence your body responds accordingly. Learning this I have always incorporated meditation and yoga into my life. When I face especially challenging stressful situation like my contemptuous divorce visit my Reiki therapist. I’m rarely I’ll, so I hope those techniques are working.

I know these factors come into play, being one distinguished “witchdoctor” and practiced in a bit of the perverted sense of the word. As a skeptic at first but thankfully a princess was sent to guide me. A beauty beyond words and wicked in a sense such was her power to charm anyone. Seeing is believing and penitence for the grief my unbelieving may have done.
